5 festive ideas to use digital displays for Christmas promotions

Can you hear those sleigh bells ringing? Your customers certainly can – so it must be time to start using your digital displays to spread some festive cheer! We’ve got plenty of experience with that at Scanlite, and our expert team are bursting with creative ideas to help you maximise your sales this Christmas. If you’re still in the planning stages on how to get the best out of your digital LED screens, here are a few handy ideas to get you started!

1. Christmas discounts and special offers

Now, we know this is a pretty obvious one to start off with, but still worth doing! If you’ve already got a loyal customer base, then the festive season is a great time to reward them for that loyalty, while bringing in more customers. (If you want to be really cynical about it, then to be honest it can also be quite a good time to get surplus stock gone!)

For that reason alone, it’s worth having a think about whether there are any products or services you can offer seasonal discounts on. Don’t forget, it’s not just about what you want to sell – it’s also important to think about what specifically they will want to buy from you around this time of year.

2. Competitions and giveaways

Discounts and special offers on existing products are always excellent for catching people’s attention, but you can take it one step further by offering dedicated one-off competition prizes especially for this year’s festive season. You’ll want to keep it relevant to your field of course – if you’re operating a retail outlet for example, then you’ll generally want your prizes and giveaways to have broad appeal, as opposed to being a specialist gadget or garment which will only appeal to a specific segment of viewers (like, say, car stereo kits designed for only one specific marque).

A savvily-run competition with carefully selected prizes can bring you results on two fronts – it helps draw more attention to your business from existing customers in the short-term, and it can also help draw in new customers who become more loyal to your brand.

3. Christmas countdowns with interactive advent calendars

With December starting very shortly, we’re officially into the final advent calendar countdown – so what better way to build excitement and anticipation than with an official countdown? You’ve got a number of creative options to combine it with – you can unveil a new character or scene every couple of days to build interest in your brand, or draw attention to a certain product or service. You could even use them in tandem with one of the options we’ve outlined above, periodically announcing new competitions or giveaways, or Christmas discounts and special offers – so there’s always something new to keep your customers engaged.

4. Festive short films to highlight community work

This one is a bit more of a long-term investment, but well worth doing if you’ve got something to highlight, and the time and budget to do it. When it comes to Christmas short films, sometimes the soft sell works just as well as the more “hard sell” options we’ve detailed above. For one high-profile example you need look no further than the John Lewis advert, which has become almost a seasonal experience in itself.

However, if you’re going to do one, they work best if you’re focusing not on short-term sales, but more on building long-term relationships with your customers. So if you’re doing something to support your customers or the local community, or otherwise giving back, then a festive short film can be the perfect way to highlight that. It doesn’t have to be as detailed as the John Lewis advert – even a 30-second film can be more than long enough to help you send a powerful message.

5. Social walls

Don’t forget to get your customers involved too. We’ve spoken about this in previous posts, but social walls can be really helpful in putting the spotlight onto some of the people you value most as a business – that is, your staff and customers. Getting your customers involved can help them get more engaged with your brand, and help enhance that festive feeling. Similarly, images of your staff can really help humanise the company, remind the public that a business isn’t necessarily a faceless corporation – that there are people working hard behind the scenes to make sure that your customers always enjoy the best experience with you. That kind of long-term relationship can really help work wonders for your business – not just at Christmas, but throughout the rest of the year too.
