Liverpool FC, Anfield Stadium
Anfield is one of the most historic stadiums in world football, known for its electric atmosphere and rich heritage. Scanlite was originally tasked by the Liverpool FC to create a scoreboard for the stadium, and for around 15 years, that retro-style electronic scoreboard served as a familiar fixture for fans. However, as expectations for live matchday experiences evolved, Liverpool FC sought a more modern solution, while maintaining the magic and tradition of Anfield. As we were the ones who first built the original scoreboard decades ago, the club once again chose our team at Scanlite to help them take the next step.
The Challenge
One of the key challenges associated with the project was centred on how best to replace the beloved retro scoreboard with cutting-edge technology without losing the character of Anfield. The stadium already had well over 130 years of history to its name, and so we needed to carefully design our solution to match Anfield’s aesthetic and atmosphere, while still ensuring it delivered all the high-tech features and improvements expected by both the club and the fans at large. The fan experience was central to the design process – encompassing the visibility, clarity and reliability for fans in all seating areas.
The Solution
We ultimately delivered a brand new, cutting-edge modern LED display tailored specifically for Anfield, characterised by vibrant colours and a clean no-nonsense appearance. Our team handled the entire project from start to finish, encompassing the design, manufacture and installation of the display. It gave the club a brilliant medium to display all the action and excitement of the game in real-time, as well as heightening the fan experience by conveying crucial VAR information, detailed statistics, and sponsor content to officials and fans.
The Result
The impact was so well received by the club that Liverpool FC commissioned another LED scoreboard from Scanlite, which we installed above the stands. This additional screen ensured that every supporter could enjoy the full matchday experience, wherever they were seated. We’re very proud to have been part of Anfield’s journey: from the original retro scoreboard to the cutting-edge LED displays of today.
