How durable are Scanlite’s digital displays?

It’s a good question that can be answered with a single word: very. But we appreciate that you probably want a bit more detail than that. Durability is one of the aspects of our LED digital displays that understandably doesn’t get quite as much attention compared to elements like their pixel pitch or brightness – but it’s still a vital element that determines the longevity and overall value that our solutions provide.

So, if you have a particularly intensive environment or application in mind, and you’re a bit concerned about your digital display’s ability to withstand the tough conditions, then don’t worry – ours are more than up to the job. Here’s a bit about why!

Waterproof and weatherproof

If you’ve ever visited our in-house manufacturing facilities here at Scanlite, you’ll already know that we’re based in Blackpool, a famous coastal town on England’s west coast – and just like any coastal town, it sees its fair share of harsh weather, including strong winds, rain, hail, and sea spray. Take a walk up the seafront though, and you’ll see a variety of our own large-format displays, all performing perfectly even under some of the most consistently harsh weather conditions the UK has to offer.

That in turn means (as you’d imagine), our outdoor video displays are more than capable of handling other demanding locations such as music festivals, outdoor events, and other open-air venues. These screens are also designed to perform in extreme temperatures, from shiver-inducing chills to sweltering heat heat, ensuring they can handle a wide range of climates. Of course, like any piece of equipment, they’ll always perform at their best with regular care and maintenance, but rest assured, either way we build them to last.

Physically tough against casual impacts

As well as being engineered to endure the toughest weather, our LED screens also designed for physical durability. Often, they’re installed in areas which see high levels of foot traffic, such as exhibition halls or conference rooms, so we make sure they’re tough enough to withstand casual impacts.

Similarly, our outdoor stadium screens are built to handle casual impacts from errant footballs or similarly flying objects (although if any football does manage to make it as far as one of our screens, generally it’s lost a lot of its kinetic energy by then anyway!).

Throughout all our decades in business here at Scanlite, we’ve found that most damage to our screens tends to be the result of human error – for example, something falling down onto it, or accidentally knocking it with something notably heavy (such as a piece of furniture). Happily though, we can account for that too!

Our dedicated maintenance and repair service

With over 40 years of experience at Scanlite, we’ve built a reputation for reliability and long-lasting quality. To help keep your digital displays in peak condition, we make sure to offer a comprehensive aftercare service, which includes a regular maintenance and repair routine.

A routine service and maintenance visit falls into the category of what we’d call “preventative maintenance” – as opposed to “reactive maintenance”, which refers to only fixing things once they’re damaged, or fail. Preventative maintenance is generally preferable for a couple of key reasons, for the best long-term results.

Essentially, reactive maintenance can often lead to more expensive repairs or even the need for replacement – some issues only get spotted once they’ve become major enough to cause serious problems. Preventative maintenance, on the other hand, subjects your screens to regular checks, so any developing issues can be identified and resolved much earlier. That means less hassle, less downtime, and in many cases less cost. All those are just a couple of key reasons why preventative care is always more cost-effective and helps extend the life of your digital screens.

Plus, it’s always worth bearing in mind that sometimes, repairs might not be as big or complex for us to complete as they first appear. That’s because of the modular design of our screens, which means that in many cases, damage to your screen doesn’t necessarily mean you need to have an entire replacement. Instead, we may just need to remove and replace a few individual panels, so if a large-format screen has taken a knock, it may be quite quick and straightforward to repair.

That’s all the essentials in a nutshell – if you’ve got any questions or need any advice about any of our digital displays here at Scanlite, feel free to get in touch. We have more than 40 years of experience to our name, and have completed tens of thousands of installations up and down the UK, so you can always rely on us to provide answers in as much or as little detail as you need.
